REVOICE at CROSS BORDER, the Very Contemporary performance festival at Kunsthaus NRW Kornelimünster 24.09.2022 
On 24th September 2022, the EUREGIO Very Contemporary 2022 network organises a joint art festival for the first time. Under the title "Very Contemporary Performance-Festival cross-border", institutions from Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands will show selected performative positions at the Kunsthaus NRW in Aachen-Kornelimünster. The participating institutions are Greylight Projects (Heerlen NL), IKOB (Eupen BE), Jester (Genk BE), Kunsthaus NRW (Aachen DE), Leopold-Hoesch-Museum (Düren DE), NAK Neuer Aachener Kunstverein (Aachen DE). Greylight Projects presents REVOICE, a performance on a barrel organ by Luca Soudant. The organ plays sound recordings from a solidarity protest in Amsterdam against the lurking threat of the U.S. American supreme court overturning the national right to abortion. One month after the protest, on the 24th of June 2022, the supreme court declared the right to safe abortion no longer to exist. Digitally programmed with this material, an interesting friction is created between the new sound collages and the history of the instrument. TALK&WALK x Keith Cafe at de Nieuwe NOR 22.09.2022 - 20:00 
Tijdens de vierde en laatste editie op donderdag 22 september staat het thema Keith x Legacy centraal. We onderzoeken de figuurlijke nalatenschap van Keith, door onze eigen Heerlense street art onder de loep te nemen. Hiervoor wordt ook een connectie gelegd met Talk&Walk van Greylight projects. Dat betekent: wandelschoenen en eventueel regenjas mee. Een avontuurlijke geest en de wil om verrast te worden. Met: Toon Hezemans, Wouter Huis en Joep Vossebeld "Zodra een kunstwerk is geschapen, moet de kunstenaar het loslaten en zullen publiek en context nieuwe betekenislagen toevoegen. De kunstenaar zal proberen die Werdegang te beïnvloeden door het werk in een meer of minder gecontroleerde omgeving te presenteren. Tentoonstellingsmakers, curatoren, regisseurs of festivals staan aan het kraambed van de kunst en zijn daarmee medeverantwoordelijk voor het bepalen van de context waarin het kunstwerk geboren wordt. Is de white cube geschikt als biotoop voor street-art? Hoe kan de contextuele bedoeling van de kunstenaar gewaarborgd blijven als het kunstwerk eenmaal is losgelaten?" (Toon Hezemans) Zowel Wouter Huis als Joep Vossebeld zoeken als kunstenaar én curator naar manieren om autonome kunstwerken buiten de muren van kunstgalerij of museum te laten overleven en communiceren. What the flag?!

De vlag heeft een lange traditie van verschillende gebruiken en betekenissen. Vlaggen worden veelal gebruikt om signalen door te geven, om landen, regio's of steden te identificeren, of om een territorium visueel af te bakenen. Ook worden vlaggen veelvuldig gebruikt om politieke ideeën en overtuigingen te representeren. De kunstenaars worden gevraagd om vanuit hun eigen werk en visie op het medium 'vlag' te reageren binnen het gegeven van de locatie waarin ze getoond worden. De verschillende vlaggen worden op verschillende locaties in en rond de binnenstad van Heerlen geplaatst. Daarnaast is er een uitwisseling van kunstenaars vlaggen tussen kunstorganisaties en musea in de Euregio, een samenwerking binnen het Very Contemporary netwerk. [EN] The flag has a long tradition of different uses and meanings. Flags are commonly used to transmit signals, to identify countries, regions or cities, or to visually demarcate a territory. Flags are also frequently used to represent political ideas and beliefs. The artists are asked to respond from their own work and vision of the medium "flag" within the context of the location in which they are shown. The different flags will be shown to the public at various locations in and around the inner city of Heerlen. There is also an exchange of artists flags between art organizations and museums in the Euregion, a collaboration within the Very Contemporary network.

"Schijnbaar willekeurige lijnen tijdelijk vereeuwigd op papier – twee mijl deze kant op geboren en je zou een andere moedertaal spreken, nog zo'n 17 mijl die kant op en je zou knielen voor een andere afgod … Waar is thuis? Wie is thuis? Wat kan thuis zijn? Kun je hier en tevens daar thuis zijn? Hoe kunnen we een thuis vorm geven voorbij de wet en bakstenen en mortel? Kunnen we ons verplaatsen en (een gevoel van) thuis maken te midden van alle ronkende parades en vlaggen? Hoe kan een zacht lichaam spreken zonder te worden ondervraagd? Waar liggen de grenzen van een lichaam? Wanneer moeten die grenzen worden vertaald of overschreden? Wie mag de verhalen bewerken en verspreiden over ergens bij horen dat verandert in iets worden?" Who is home? What could home be? Could you be here and there at home? How can we flesh out a home beyond the law and bricks & mortar? Can we move and make (a sense of) home amidst all the roaring parades and flags? How can a soft body speak without being probed? Where are a body's borders?
